About Us...
We were married on a sunny June day in 1984. Our kitchen set was four simple chairs and a small Formica table, perfect for our new apartment.
In January 1989 we had four kids and not enough chairs to sit them down to eat in our nice new house. The honeymoon was definitely over and we needed a bigger kitchen set. So we went shopping.
We stopped in a number of dinette stores on the highway, but we did not like the selection and quality of the furniture, nor the chilly reception we got from the salespeople when we walked in with 4 kids under the age of 4. Even though we had money to spend, they lost our business. And instead of getting angry, we decided to get smart.
Within weeks we opened Dina's Dinettes as a shop-at-home catalog sales store. Mom stayed at home with the kids and sold dining sets, Dad did the deliveries in the family mini-van. The business grew quickly.
Six months later we moved to a real storefront in the downtown shopping district of Lakewood. The store was small but we were able to expand to include mattresses and Formica bedroom furniture (all the rage in the early 1990's). We placed an emphasis on high-quality, good value, and attentive customer service, combined with our family-focused sales approach. Customers responded enthusiastically. They wanted to buy more furniture from us, but our tiny store could not display it all.
In January 1992 we moved down the street to 128 Clifton Avenue. It was a two -story building and we thought we could never fill the vast space. We let the upstairs be rented out to offices.
By then our fifth child had been born, our sixth was on the way, and we needed a new sofa. We wanted to buy some sofas for our family room, something comfortable but durable. After a bit of shopping around, and necessity being the mother of invention, we thought " Why don't we sell sofas, too?" We opened an account with Natuzzi, the largest manufacturer of leather furniture. Consumer interest in leather furniture was still in its early stages. Through our marketing Dina's created a large public awareness of leather sofas as an affordable, practical kind of luxury . We soon became leaders in this furniture market and remain so until this day.
We now have 7 beautiful children and all the furniture we need for ourselves. We have expanded our furniture lines to 3 very major leather brands, more than 50 dining brands, plus bedroom and occasional pieces. Our reputation in the furniture sales arena is something we are very proud of. Please visit us soon so we can help you furnish your home. We'll treat you like family, just as we have one with every one of our clients since 1989.
It's 2007, the beginning of a new era, and time to move on. We want to bring our clients more selection, coupled with design services, in a beautiful atmosphere. We also need better access and parking, away from the congested downtown area. So... Please join us this Fall of 2007 when we move to our all-new, spacious store at 399 Cedar Bridge Avenue, Lakewood, just 2 miles from Garden State Parkway Exit 89.
